In 1989, President George H. W. Bush decided that something needed to be done to combat the hazardous environment, created by an influx of drugs from Panama, caused by an organized effort of Panamanian General Manuel Noriega. "Operation Just Cause" was the result with the U.S. Military invading Panama in an effort to depose Noriega. The military effort began in December of 1989 and ended in January of 1990 with Noriega being toppled from power. No Auburn-area affiliated veterans are known to have participated in this conflict.
