First Bethel Church
Updated 02/16/2021
A "bethel" is defined as a "sacred area or sanctuary". The first "bethel" church of Auburn was also the first sanctioned building constructed for the purpose of worship in the town. Construction began in 1845 and was completed in 1846. The building was estimated to be approximately 20' x 20' (the size of one large room) or perhaps as large as 20' x 30' (600' square feet). By 1872, the structure had been abandoned and was falling into ruin. A portion of the foundation of this church can still be found within the grounds of the Auburn Cemetery located on Mill Street, Auburn ,PA.
