The "Population" portion of this website will cover primarily those basic facts and figures which relate to those residents who inhabit the town of Auburn, either past or present, based on U. S. Census figures. In 2010, Auburn has 741 residents, which was an 11.68% decrease from the 2000 census figures and the lowest figure since 1870. Sadly, this figure was a 37% decrease over the population of Auburn in 1930 during the Great Depression, which was 1,170 (the town's highest population figure). In 2020, Auburn had only 663 residents, a decrease of approximately 10% over the prior census a decade earlier, and a discouraging decrease of approximately 57% over its peak population during the Great Depression.
The majority of the population is Caucasian (97.7%). The gender of the population is split almost perfectly with 51% being males to 49% being females. 22% of the population are juveniles; 63% are adults aging from 18 to 64 years of age with the median age of Auburn-residents being approximately 50 years old; and 15% are seniors ranging from 65 years and older. Auburn's median individual income is below state and national averages at just a little over $25,000...with the highest percentage of residents (approx. 20%) qualifying for the $40,000 - $50,000 median household income range...which is approximately 67% of the state level and 64% of the national level. Approximately 12% of the population is considered to be living at poverty level...which is consistent with the state level and just slightly worse than the national level at 11.6%. Over 75% of the residences in town were constructed prior to 1960 and the median house value in Auburn is $270,800. The public school district covering the Auburn area (Blue Mountain School District) is considered better than average in quality then other school districts throughout the state. Auburn, PA has a lower rate of both violent and property crime than the average US rates. Violent crime in Auburn is 75% lower than, or only 25% of, the state average; at the rate of only 1 violent crime per year for every 1,000 residents compared to Pennsylvania's annual average of approximately 3.9 violent crimes per year for every 1,000 residents, and it is also approximately 73% lower than, or only 27% of, the US average of 3.67 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. Similarly, when it comes to property crimes; the website crimegrade.org states "Considering only the property crime rate, Auburn is safer than the Pennsylvania state average and safer than the national average". This shows that Auburn is a relatively safe and secure place to live when compared to other areas around the country, state or even county. |
