Two family-plot cemeteries for the Fahl lineage exist within the immediate Auburn area. Since this cemetery has the earliest interment of the two sites, this has been titled Fahl Cemetery #1. The cemetery is located upon what was once the Fahl family farm. This site has previously been believed to have had a total of five interments; however, presently the site is now considered to contain only four adult interments and a single large "foot-stone" marker associated with one of the adult grave sites. NOTE: All inscriptions are in the German language.
This cemetery also has the distinction of being the earliest known still visible cemetery within the immediate Auburn area and, as such, contains the earliest known interment within that area. Although this cemetery is listed upon the Auburn Area Historical Society's website in an effort to provide a comprehensive listing of all known interments within the Auburn area, it should be stressed that both Fahl cemeteries are located on private property and no one should assume entry onto these sites without first obtaining permission from the owners. |
Maria Christina (Fahl) Miller - Some individuals, and even some Internet sites, considered this stone as a separate interment from the others within this cemetery. Although this grave marker is the same approximate size as the other markers within this cemetery, the more probable explanation is that the stone is simply a large "foot-stone" style marker for a different headstone within this lot - that of a Maria Christina (Fahl) Miller. The likelihood of two separate "Maria Christina Miller" interments, both occurring within a small plot dedicated solely to the Fahl family, is so remote that it would be highly improbable. Additionally, genealogical records of the Fahl family only list a single "Maria Christina Miller".

Maria Christina (Fahl) Miller - Although her tombstone is engraved that Maria was born on December 22, 1752, genealogical records indicate that her date of birth was actually in the year 1776, not 1752. The latter date is far more believable since otherwise her mother would have been impregnated at twelve years of age and given birth shortly after having turned thirteen.
Maria was the daughter of (Johann?) Jost "Yost" Fahl (interred within this cemetery) and Maria Magdalena Fahl (interred within this cemetery), and the sister of Catharina Fahl Brickle, Christena Fahl Alspach, Christian Fahl, Daniel Fahl, and (Johann?) Diedrich (or Dietrich?) "Dieter" Fahl (interred within this cemetery). Maria died on June 19, 1811 at the early age of 34. This date of death gives Maria the dubious distinction of being the earliest known visible interment in the immediate Auburn area. |
Maria Magdalena Fahl - Maria was born November 28, 1739. She was the wife of (Johann?) Jost "Yost" Fahl (interred within this cemetery) and the mother of Catharina Fahl Brickle, Christena Fahl Alspach, Christian Fahl, Daniel Fahl, (Johann?) Diedrich (or Dietrich?) "Dieter" Fahl (interred within this cemetery) and Maria Christina (Fahl) Miller (interred within this cemetery). Maria Magdelana Fahl died in Schuylkill County, PA, on December 30, 1812 at the age of 73.

(Johann?) Jost "Yost" Fahl - (Johann?) Jost "Yost" Fahl was born in Germany on September 27, 1731. He was the son of Johann Dietrich Fahl and Anna (Ana) Margretha (Magdel) Schmidt Fahl. He was a brother of Christian Fall (Fahl), Elizabeth Fahl Ely (b. 1738* - d. 1822), Elizabeth Fahl Ozias (b. 1738* - d. 1826), Johan Dietrich Fahl and Johan/Johann Georg/George Fall (Fahl).
(*NOTE: Both "Elizabeth"s appear to have been born in 1738...whether this is an error in one's birth date is uncertain). (Johann?) Jost was the husband of Maria Magdalena Fahl (interred within this cemetery) and the father of Catharina Fahl Brickle, Christena Fahl Alspach, Christian Fahl, Daniel Fahl, (Johann?) Diedrich (or Dietrich?) "Dieter" Fahl (interred within this cemetery) and Maria Christina (Fahl) Miller (interred within this cemetery). (Johann?) Jost died in Berks* County, Pennsylvania, on September 27, 1815, on his birthday, at the age of 84. (*NOTE: The "died in Berks County" may have been an error as his farm was located in what is now Schuylkill County, but had been once located in a part of a much larger Berks County. Schuylkill County was formed out of a portion of Berks County just four years earlier in 1811. His wife, who died not even three years earlier, is listed as having died in Schuylkill County in 1812...a year after the new county was established). |
(Johann?) Diedrich (or Dietrich) "Dieter" Fahl - (Johann?) Diedrich (or Dietrich?) "Dieter" Fahl was born on November 4, 1766. He was the son of (Johann?) Jost "Yost" Fahl and Maria Magdalena Fahl, and a brother of Catharina Fahl Brickle, Christena Fahl Alspach, Christian Fahl, Daniel Fahl, and Maria Christina (Fahl) Miller.
(Johann?) Diedrich married Anna Magdalena Heim Fahl. They had the following children: Catharine Fahl Alspach, Daniel Fahl, Elizabeth G. Fahl Faust, Esther Fahl Foust, George Fahl and John Dietrich Fahl. (Johann?) Diedrich died on December 6, 1818 at the age of 52. He is the last known interment to be placed into this cemetery. |
