Auburn's history of employers is categorized under three primary topics. The first category, "Businesses", covers primarily smaller employers or "Mom & Pop" operations such as those groups listed above. The second category, "Industry", covers primarily larger employers such as factories or mills who manufacture or otherwise create a product from raw materials. The third category, "Public Service", covers employers who also provide what might be considered a service which primarily benefits the public, such as "Education", "Emergency Services", "Post Offices", etc.. Small businesses are an important part of any local economy and historic Auburn had dozens of such enterprises over the decades. We are grateful for those small businesses that still remain and endure in Auburn.
